What is HLVd?
Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) has become an ongoing concern for cultivators worldwide in the hemp and hops industries. It is a single-stranded, circular infectious RNA of 256 nucleotides.
Symptoms of HLVd include:
- brittle stems
- yellow leaves
- reduced flower/trichome mass
- decreased yield
Typically in the early growing stages, infected plants will appear asymptomatic. By the time HLVd infection can be visually identified, it has often already spread to many other plants in the crop.
