Diseases related with X. fastidiosa are bacterial leaf scorch, oleander leaf scorch, coffee leaf scorch (CLS), alfalfa dwarf, phony peach disease, and the economically important Pierce’s disease of grapes (PD) , citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC) and olive quick decline syndrome (OQDS) in Europe. X. fastidiosa is currently regulated in the EU as a quarantine organism. Pathogenicity of the bacterium only occurs when a large proportion of xylem vessels in a plant are colonized thus many plants are asymptomatic carriers of X. fastidiosa, which can contribute to its spread.
