Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation Tube
Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation tubes provide an easy and rapid method of collecting and preserving DNA and RNA from stool samples, while also maintaining the microbiome profile in the stool samples as close to fresh as possible. The tubes preserve DNA for 2 years and RNA for 7 days in stool samples without any cold-chain transportation or storage required. Purified high-quality DNA and RNA are compatible with any downstream applications, including PCR/qPCR/rt-qPCR, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, gene expression analyses, and NGS.

RNA
In each living cell genetic information from DNA is transcribed into RNA which is then translated into proteins that take part in cellular functions. Every cell that is functionally active therefore contains an abundance of RNA, which can be used for transcriptomic analyses to identify which functional pathways are active within the cell. Since stool consists of a plethora of host cells, there is an abundance of intracellular and extracellular RNA. However, due to the activity of RNases, this RNA might be degraded into small fragments which are difficult to capture. Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation tubes inactivate RNases thus preventing further breakdown of RNA in stool samples.

Fungi
Fungi are eukaryotic organisms such as yeast that grow naturally in various parts of the human body such as the mouth and gut. Typically, only a very small species are capable of colonizing within the gut and greatly vary from individual to individual. External factors such as diet or environment significantly influence the mycobiome and set it in a disbalance. Fungal species in the microbiome show great variability in composition and are a very promising up-and-coming field. Explore the gut mycobiome using Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation Tubes.

DNA
Stool has a plethora of host cells originating from different parts of the gastrointestinal tract. It is therefore abundant in host DNA which may be intracellular or extracellular. Host DNA from stool can be used to perform genomic analyses in order to learn more about the molecular functioning of the gut. Due to DNases present within stool, a majority of host DNA may be present as small fragments which are difficult to capture. Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation tubes inactivate these DNases thus preventing further breakdown of DNA in stool samples.

Bacteria
Bacteria are microscopic single-celled organisms that are found both within and outside of organisms. In fact, the human body contains more bacteria than human cells. Some bacteria are beneficial for our bodies such as helping digestion and assisting our immune system. Other bacteria can be very harmful and lead to infections and disease. Norgen’s Stool Nucleic Acid Collection and Preservation Tubes allow us to stabilize the microbial profile in order to study what bacteria are present within the gut.

Viruses
Viruses are submicroscopic infectious agents consisting of a segment of nucleic acid (either DNA or RNA) enveloped by a protein coat. They can only replicate inside living cells of an organism where they hijack host cells’ machinery to make copies of themselves. Viruses infect all life forms, from animals and plants to microorganisms such as bacteria.

Metabolites
Metabolites are intermediate or end products of metabolic reactions catalyzed by enzymes within a cell. They are small molecules that have various functions including energy production, signaling, defense, cofactor activity, and interaction with other organisms. Metabolites present in stool can provide important clues about microbial and host functions that are active in an individual. This information can be critical in understanding the interactions between host and microbial functional pathways that may lead to disease.
