Eligibility

This is an opportunity for scientists and researchers who reside in Canada only and/or working on their research project within a Canadian institution or organization. Canadian citizens/ permanent residents living outside Canada are not eligible to apply for this grant. All applicants must be primarily responsible for the research described. Employees and immediate family members of Norgen Biotek and Illumina cannot participate in the contest.

Eligible researchers must hold a research position in a Canadian research institution, university, organization or company in order to receive funding to aid in project expansion and continue contributing to the scientific community. Submissions to the Grant are admitted from any researcher regardless of age, gender, country of origin, background or religion.

The research must fall within a project aligned with the grant requirements. Incomplete submissions or those that do not meet the requirements will be rejected.

Each applicant or entrant is responsible for confirming that their respective university or organization rules permit their participation and must fully disclose the support provided by Norgen Biotek & Illumina in all oral or written presentations of the results of the research.

Submission Guidelines

Only one entry per representative will be considered. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

Norgen Biotek will accept submissions received exclusively through the online form no later than June 30, 2023. The winners will be selected by a team of Senior Scientists and notified by email from Norgen Biotek.

Prizes

The prize award is based on Norgen’s and Illumina’s product list prices with no additional or existing discount. No cash prize alternative will be awarded, and the prize is not transferable or refundable.

Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2023.

Taxes, including sales, federal, provincial, and local taxes, if any, are the responsibility of the grant recipient. The total cost of shipping will be incorporated into the total value of the prize.

This grant will cover labour costs associated with Norgen Biotek's standard sample extraction and sequencing service offering.

If the research project requires the use of third-party kits and reagents that are not offered by Illumina Canada or Norgen Biotek, any additional costs incurred will be the responsibility of the grant recipient and will be discussed with the recipient before commencement of the project.

Disclaimer

For all winner(s), Norgen and/or Illumina publishes the following information: a) Full name, b) name of institution, c) their activities in relation to the award of the prize, d) prize amount. Participants hereby irrevocably grant to Norgen & Illumina:

• the unrestricted right and permission to copyright, make, reproduce, publish, republish, broadcast and otherwise use photos and recordings of the participant or in which the participant may be included intact or in part, composite in character or form, in conjunction with the participant's own, or reproduction hereof, made through any and all media now or hereafter known for illustration, art, promotion, advertising, trade, corporate communications, social media or any other purpose whatsoever;
• the right and permission to the use of any written information (including without limitation, quotations, product or information) material in connection with the above;

Provided that such photos and recording are used for the purpose of the Norgen & Illumina | Sequence to Discover Research Grant and promotional activities. Participant waives any right to examine or approve the completed product or products or the copy or printed matter that may be used in conjunction with the or the use to which it may be applied.

Norgen Biotek & Illumina has no responsibility or liability for damages, losses or injury resulting from the acceptance or use of our products and services. All expenses and costs not expressly listed in the agreements are the Grant recipient’s sole responsibility.
