With a commitment to providing innovative solutions that inspire new discoveries, the Sequence to Discover Research Grant brought to you by Norgen Biotek Corp. and Illumina, is an opportunity for Canadian researchers who reside in Canada to receive funding to aid in project expansion and continue contributing to the scientific community. Three grants, each worth $20,000, will be provided to three recipients.
The grants will be supported by both Norgen Biotek Corp. and Illumina Canada as follows:
- Norgen products, with a list price valued at $10,000, that include your choice of:
- Sample collection and preservation devices
- RNA purification and DNA isolation kits
- Illumina sequencing kits with a list price of $10,000
- Associated costs with Norgen extraction, library preparation and sequencing services
- Up to 3 recipients will be awarded and will receive the support as indicated above
Requirements
- The utilization of Next Generation Sequencing in one of the following applications:
- Cell-Free RNA/Cell-Free DNA
- Plasma/Serum
- Whole Blood
- Exosomes
- Urine
- Stool
- Saliva
- Metagenomics
- A letter of support from the principal investigator/home institute
- Completion of online application form

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the application, recipients must reside in Canada and hold a post within a Canadian research institution, university, organization or company.
Eligible researchers may work in one of the following categories:
- Post-secondary institutions/research institutes
- Federal government agencies or department laboratories
- Industry and commercial enterprises
Once eligibility is confirmed, submissions will be evaluated based on the researcher's excellence as addressed in the application and the merit of the included proposal. The selection process will be completed on or before July 15, 2023.
Limitations
Sequencing must be performed on the Illumina MiSeq or the Illumina NextSeq 500/550 platforms at Norgen Biotek's laboratory in Thorold, ON.
